No. 36 Lewis Men's Tennis Claims 6-3 Win Over Saint Joseph's

Flyers sweep doubles play en route to win in GLVC opener.

The No. 36 Lewis University men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches for the second-straight match, as the Flyers opened the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference season with the 6-3 win over Saint Joseph's at the Hanson Rec Center on Friday (March 29) afternoon.

"We're battling through some injuries right now and we needed our teammates to step up today," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "It doesn't have to be pretty, but we just need to find a way to get the 'W'."

With the win, Lewis improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in GLVC action, while the host Pumas are now 10-5 on the campaign and 0-1 in conference play.

At No. 1 doubles, Lewis sophomores Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) teamed up for the 8-4 win over Joseph Bomben and Reid Imel. Levandi, who competed at No. 1 singles, defeated Seth Arthur, 6-0, 6-0, while Aunapuu dropped Bomben, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Lewis senior Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and sophomore John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) defeated Joseph Scott and Arthur at No. 2 doubles. Hardacre also claimed the 6-4, 6-3 win over Imel at No. 4 singles.

The Flyers completed their sweep in doubles at No. 3, as sophomore Florian Etienne (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine) (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine/Shorter) and junior Philip Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli/Creighton) triumphed over Danny James and Andrew Klump, 8-6.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (March 30), as the Flyers take on Indianapolis for a 10 AM (ET) first serve.
