No. 41 Lewis Women's Tennis Clinches GLVC East With 6-3 Win Over Bellarmine

Flyer sweep doubles for fourth-straight match; Lanstiak, Kranczicki and Wetmore all win two matches for Lewis.

The No. 41 Lewis University women's tennis team clinched the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division title and extended their winning streak to eight with the 6-3 GLVC victory over Bellarmine at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon.

With the win, Lewis improves to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in GLVC action, while the host Knights fall to 12-8 on the campaign and 4-2 in conference play.

Lewis' nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) claimed the 8-1 win over Michelle McFerran and Caitlin Hanley at No. 1. Lanstiak also handed Evann Waschuk, a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki dropped Hanley, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

Flyer freshman Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) also won two matches for Lewis on Saturday. Wetmore paired up with junior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 3 doubles for the 8-6 win over Jamie Claeys and Abby Day. Wetmore chipped in a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Day at No. 4 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis' Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) earned the 8-2 win over Hannah-Rose Hagan and Waschuk.

Lewis returns to Romeoville on Sunday (Apr. 14) for a 1 PM regional showdown with Ferris State at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
