Romeoville, Ill. - Despite winning all three doubles matches, the No. 36 Lewis University men's tennis team was unable to maintain that lead, as No. 34 Ferris State won five out of six in singles play on their way to the 5-4 regional victory over the host Flyers at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Sunday (Apr. 14) afternoon.
With the victory, Ferris State improves to 13-4 overall, while the Flyers are now 7-6.
Lewis sophomore
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) was the only Flyer to win two matches on the afternoon. Levandi and junior
Florian Etienne (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine) (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine/Shorter) picked up the 8-6 win over Razvan Mag and Laurent Galarneau at No. 1 doubles. Levandi also beat Galarneau, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis'
Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and
John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) defeated FSU's Tyler Marengo and Sergiu Laza, 8-1. The Flyers' No. 3 doubles team of
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and
Philip Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli/Creighton) upended Otto Keresztes and Aaron Dial, 9-8.
Lewis advances to the 2013 GLVC Men's Tennis Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Division. The Flyers will take on Rockhurst, the No. 3 seed in the West, at 11 AM on Friday (Apr. 19) at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center at North Central High School.
