Indianapolis, Ind. - The No. 41 Lewis University women's tennis team has advanced to the GLVC Women's Tennis Championship for the third-straight year, as the Flyers earned victories over both William Jewell (5-0) and Rockhurst (5-2) on Friday (Apr. 19).
The Flyers will also meet Drury in the finals for the third-straight year. The match is slated to begin at 1 PM ET on Saturday (Apr. 20).
Against William Jewell, Lewis received two victories apiece from junior All-GLVC selections
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium). The duo - ranked No. 4 in the country - blanked Katy Lahenbauer and Kristin Stivers, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Lanstiak also bested Stivers, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki claimed the 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hana Lindbloom at No. 2 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis'
Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) outlasted William Jewell's Conner and Loree Hazelrigg, 9-7.
The Flyers' No. 3 tandem of junior
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and freshman
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) also claimed a 9-7 win over William Jewell's Savannah Drew and Jaimie Baker.
In the nightcap against Rockhurst, both Lanstiak and Kranczicki set the tone for the Flyers as they earch garnered two wins. At No. 1 doubles, Lanstiak and Kranczicki dropped Karsyn Betts and Christine Schatz, 8-0. Lanstiak also defeated Betts, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki upended Kim Vrugteveen, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Nguyen added a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 come-from-behind win over Alex Schelble at No. 3 singles, while Markgraf defeated Schatz, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
