The Lewis University men's soccer team competed in their third-straight double overtime match and finished with their second-consecutive tie, as the Flyers and the University of Indianapolis battled to a 1-1 (2OT) tie in each team's Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 13) night.

"We can't pick and choose when we want to play," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We played well, we did some nice things, and then we turned it off for 10 minutes.

"We have to get after it more and play a full 90 minutes.

With the tie, Lewis is now 1-0-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in GLVC action, while the visiting Greyhounds move to 1-1-1 on the campaign and 0-0-1 in conference play.

Lewis got on the board in the sixth minute, as senior forward Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) pushed one past UIndy goalkeeper Andrew Verhonik to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

That lead was short-lived, as UIndy's Ngwese Ebangwese took a crossing pass that deflected off of a Lewis defender for the score at the 12:40 mark.

Verhonik made two saves in goal for the Greyhounds, while Lewis senior goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) turned away seven UIndy shots.

As a team, UIndy outshot Lewis, 22-9 and with eight shots on goal to Lewis' three.

Lewis returns to the pitch on Sunday, as they head to Rensselaer, Ind., to square off with Saint Joseph's for a 2:30 PM showdown.
