Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University sophomore
Jessica Chavez (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) collected the first hat trick of her collegiate career as she helped the women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Indianapolis on Friday (Sept. 13) at Lewis Stadium to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Chavez picked up her first goal of the match in the 24
th minute when she put the ball into the upper right corner on a pass from senior
Heidi Haller (Northville, Mich./Northville). After sophomore
Maggie Moran (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) was fouled inside the box in the 71
st minute, Chavez converted her first penalty kick attempt of the season. She completed the hat trick with a shot from 15 yards away off a pass from redshirt junior
Jennie Coughlon (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) in the 83rd minute for her fourth goal of the season.
Amy Foran scored the last Flyers' hat trick in 2007.
The Flyers improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in GLVC action while the Greyhounds fall to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in league play.
"I am really excited that we started off conference play with a win," Lewis head women's soccer coach
Chris Koenig said. "We saw tonight a little bit of what this team is capable of in terms of team attacking.
"We had good group attacking from all 11 players on the field today."

Greccia Miranda (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) put the Flyers on the board in the 7
th minute of the game after putting in a ball off a cross from freshman forward
Meg Carmody (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg).
Indianapolis was able to even the score at 2-all after Stacey Klene scored in the 30
th and 52
nd minutes.
Flyers' Moran scored her first goal of the season in the 71
st minute of match when she put the ball in the back of the net from 25 yards out.

Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and senior
Arianna Nie (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), each picked up a save in the contest. Indianapolis' goalkeeper Megan Fee picked up four saves while allowing all five of the Flyers goals.
The Flyers head on the road to take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday (Sept. 15) in Rensselaer, Ind. Kickoff is set for 12 PM.
