Kirksville, Mo. -
Lewis University senior forward Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) scored the golden-goal in the 106th minute, to push the men's soccer team to the 2-1 (2OT) come-from-behind victory over Truman State at Bulldog Soccer Park on Friday (Sept. 20) afternoon.

Ramirez found the back of the net on a 25-yard free kick into the upper right corner past Truman State goalkeeper Drew Garrone for the win.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 3-0-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in GLVC action, while the host Bulldogs fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Flyers are unbeaten through their first five matches this season, which has not happened since they did it 11 straight times to open the 2004 campaign.

Truman State got on the board first when they were awarded a penalty kick following a handball by a Lewis defender in the box. Bulldog midfielder Nick Tolmais made the most of his opportunity, blasting the ball past Lewis goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) at the 19:54 mark.

The score would remain that way until the 70th minute, as junior defender Michael Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) took a pass from sophomore midfielder Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) and flicked it past Garrone for the game-tying goal.

"Truman played hard," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffiles said. "They came out, stamped their style on the game and capitalized on their chance in the first half.

"I thought we played better in the second half and capitalized on our chance for the equalizer," Fiffles continued. "Both teams had chances to score in the overtime and Cristhian scored a great goal for the winner."

Pickett made two saves to earn his third victory of the season, while Garrone turned away five shots.

For the game, Lewis outshot Truman State, 16-8, adding seven shots on goal to the Bulldogs' three.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 22), as the Flyers head to Quincy for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
