Lewis Women’s Swimming Picks Up Win Over Carthage, 151-111

Kenosha, Wis. – The Lewis University women's swimming team picked up the program's first victory over Carthage College on Saturday (Jan. 11), as the Flyers defeated the Lady Reds 151-111 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center.
 
The Flyers improve to 7-2 in dual meet action while the Lady Reds move to 2-2 on the year.
 
"I was pleased with the aggressive nature of our races," Lewis head women's swimming coach Roger Karns said. "The squad is very tired from training over the break but raced well today.
 
"I am confident the times will follow when we get to the championship season."
 
Lewis freshman Shannon Sullivan (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and sophomore Montana Clasby (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) each collected three individual victories at the meet.
 
Sullivan finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.67), the 100-yard freestyle (53.78) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.94).
 
Clasby won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.61), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.02) and the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:14.07).
 
Freshman Courtney Duy (Buckeye, Ariz./Millennium) tallied victories in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.08) and the 200-yard backstroke (2;12.47) as classmate Kara Treacy (Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff) won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.63).
 
The Flyers closed out the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of junior Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North), sophomore Mackenzie Kummer (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail), Duy and Sullivan finished on top with a time of 3:41.50.
 
Lewis is back in action on Saturday (Jan. 18) when they take on Olivet Nazarene at 1 PM at the ONU Student Life and Recreation Center in Bourbonnais, Ill.
