No. 25 Lewis Women's Basketball Heads To McKendree For Thursday Contest

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 25 Lewis University women's basketball team (10-2, 4-0 GLVC) takes their seven-game winning-streak on the road to face McKendree University (6-6, 1-3 GLVC) for a Thursday (Jan. 16) contest in Lebanon, Ill. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.

SERIES RECORD – Lewis holds a 2-1 all-time series record over McKendree. 

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - The Flyers won both match-ups in the 2012-13 season, including a Feb. 16 contest at Neil Carey Arena, 62-50. Forward Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the Flyers with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots while guard Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) chipped in 13 points. Forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) collected 10 boards, seven points and three blocks for the Flyers.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers snapped UMSL's 10-game winning streak on Saturday (Jan. 11) with a 67-60 victory at Chuck Smith Court. Redshirt sophomore guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) led four Lewis players in double-figures with 18 points while Brawner-Henley tallied 17 rebounds and 10 points for her 11th double-double of the season.

BACK IN THE POLL - Lewis jumped back into the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday (Jan. 14) at No. 25. The Flyers have been receiving votes all season and were most recently ranked as No. 12 in the Nov. 26 poll.

BOTH HOOPS TEAMS RANKED - Lewis University is one of six NCAA Division II institutions that have men's and women's basketball programs in the Top-25. 

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Johnson, who has started in all 12 games, is averaging 35.5 minutes on the court, which is the second-most in the GLVC. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 season due to a knee injury. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

AMONG THE COUNTRY - Lewis tops the GLVC in blocked shots, averaging 5.0 blocks-per-game, which puts them 12th nationally. The Flyers also lead the league and are 16th nationally in assists, dishing out 18.1 assists-per-game, while holding a 1.25 assist-to-turnover ratio, eleventh-best figure in the country.

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 11 double-doubles in 12 contests this season, while ranking second in rebounds, averaging 13.2 rebounds-per-game. Brawner-Henley is second the GLVC in points (19.1 ppg), while ranking third in blocked shots (2.0 bpg). 

SHARING THE ROCK – All three of the Flyers starting guards are in the top-10 in the GLVC in assists. Junior Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is tied for first in the conference in assists, dishing out 5.0 assists-per-game. 

Johnson is fourth with 4.5 helpers-per-game while junior guard Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) sits in eighth, averaging 3.9 assists-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME -  Reinhart, Itschner and Johnson's 20-point performances against Quincy on Jan. 5th marked the first time since the 2005-06 season that the Flyers have had three players score at least 20 points. Darcee Schmidt (23 pts.),  Mary Moskal (24 pts.) and Shante Glenn (20 pts.) all hit the mark in the Flyers' 95-85 victory at Ferris State on Dec. 21, 2005.

BACK-TO-BACK 90+ SCORING GAMES - After Lewis' back-to-back 90+ point victories over Truman State (98-72) on Jan. 3rd and Quincy (92-80) on Jan. 5th, the Flyers last poured in 90+ points in consecutive contests in the 2006-07 season. Lewis won 91-77 at Missouri S&T on Jan. 20, 2007, before returning to Neil Carey Arena to defeat Southern Indiana, 92-72, on Jan. 25, 2007.

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – Brawner-Henley (31 pts, 17 rebs.) and Reinhart's (30 pts., 13 rebs.) double-doubles on Dec. 7th against Purdue Calumet marked the first time since the 2010 season that the Flyers had two players post double-doubles in the same game. Jenny Turpel posted 24 points and 10 rebounds while teammate Lory Shaw scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds in the 75-70 loss to Saginaw Valley on Nov. 12, 2010.
