No. 25 Lewis Women's Basketball Travels To UIS For Saturday Match-Up

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 25 Lewis University women's basketball team (11-2, 5-0 GLVC) looks to extend their eight-game winning-streak when the Flyers take on Illinois Springfield (5-9, 1-5 GLVC) on Saturday (Jan. 18). Tipoff at The Recreation and Athletic Center is set for 1 PM.

SERIES RECORD – Lewis holds a 6-2 series record over Illinois Springfield.

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - The Flyers last met up with the Prairie Stars in the 2011-12 campaign. Lewis picked up an 82-73 victory on Jan. 14, 2012 at Neil Carey Arena, as Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) led four Flyers in double-figures with 19 points.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers picked up their eighth-straight win on Thursday (Jan. 16) with a 72-62 defeat of McKendree at the Statham Center in Lebanon, Ill. Sophomore forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) collected her 12th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. 

STREAKIN' - The Flyers last won nine-straight contests in the 2006-07 season from Feb. 10-March 9, 2007. The Lewis program record of 13-straight victories also took place in the 2006-07 campaign from Dec. 9, 2006 to Feb. 3, 2007.

BACK IN THE POLL - Lewis jumped back into the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday (Jan. 14) at No. 25. The Flyers have been receiving votes all season and were most recently ranked twelth in the Nov. 26 poll.

BOTH HOOPS TEAMS RANKED - Lewis University is one of six NCAA Division II institutions that have men's and women's basketball programs in the Top-25. 

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Redshirt sophomore guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic), who has started in all 13 games, is averaging a league-high 35.4 minutes on the court. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury.

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

AMONG THE COUNTRY - Lewis tops the GLVC and rank No. 9 nationally in blocked shots, averaging 5.1 blocks-per-game and in rebounds, pulling down 44.5 rebounds-per-game. The Flyers are also second in the league in assists, dishing out 17.2 assists-per-game, while holding a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. 

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 12 double-doubles in 13 contests this season, while ranking second in rebounds, averaging 13.0 rebounds-per-game. Brawner-Henley is second the GLVC in points (19.0 ppg), while ranking third in blocked shots (2.1 bpg). 

SHARING THE ROCK – All three of the Flyers starting guards are in the top-10 in the GLVC in assists. Junior Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is second in the conference in assists, dishing out 4.8 assists-per-game. Johnson is fourth with 4.2 helpers-per-game while junior guard Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) sits in eighth, averaging 3.9 assists-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME - Junior Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic), Itschner and Johnson's 20-point performances against Quincy on Jan. 5th marked the first time since the 2005-06 season that the Flyers have had three players score at least 20 points. Darcee Schmidt (23 pts.),  Mary Moskal (24 pts.) and Shante Glenn (20 pts.) all hit the mark in the Flyers' 95-85 victory at Ferris State on Dec. 21, 2005.

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – Brawner-Henley (31 pts., 17 rebs.) and Reinhart's (30 pts., 13 rebs.) double-doubles on Dec. 7th against Purdue Calumet marked the first time since the 2010 season that the Flyers had two players post double-doubles in the same game. Jenny Turpel (24 pts., 10 rebs.) and Lory Shaw (16 pts.,12 rebs.) collected their double-double in the Flyers 75-70 loss to Saginaw Valley on Nov. 12, 2010.
