Long Range Shooting Keys UW-Parkside To 94-88 Victory Over No. 23 Lewis Men's Basketball

Rangers knock down 11 trifectas on the evening; Jackson (20 points) leads five Flyers in double-figures.

UW-Parkside retained sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division as the host Rangers, led by 32 points and six three-pointers by senior guard Colt Grandstaff, drained 11 trifectas en route to the 94-88 victory over the No. 23 Lewis University men's basketball team at DeSimone Gymnasium on Monday (Jan. 20) evening.

Grandstaff connected on 6-of-12 attempts from long range and was 11-for-20 from the field. Sophomore guard Jimmy Gavin knocked down two three-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Jordan Mach dropped in three trifectas of his own and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. 

UW-Parkside junior forward Mohamed Mohamed pitched in 15 points for the Rangers, followed by 11 points and a game-high eight assists by freshman guard Andy Mazurczak.

"We couldn't muster up a way to get stops when we needed to (tonight)," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "Give Parkside credit, because they are a very good team and shot the ball extremely well."

As a team, UW-Parkside shot 45.8% (11-for-24) from long range and 56.9% (33-for-58) from the field.

With the win, UW-Parkside improves to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in GLVC action, while the visiting Flyers drop to 13-2 on the campaign and 5-2 in conference play.

Lewis junior guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) led five Flyer players in double-figures with 20 points, six rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) added 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while junior point guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) was 7-for-8 from the floor and finished with 17 points.

Lewis junior forward David Niggins (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Senior guard Nick Valla (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) contributed 10 points and a game-high eight assists.

As a team, Lewis shot 51.6% (33-for-64) from the field, marking the fourth-straight game that the Flyers have hit at least half of their field goal attempts.

Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 23), as the Flyers welcome No. 10 Southern Indiana to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
