No. 23 Lewis Women's Basketball Hosts Bellarmine On Saturday

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 23 Lewis University women's basketball team (13-3, 7-1 GLVC) gets set to host Bellarmine (9-7, 5-3 GLVC) on Saturday (Jan. 25). Tipoff at Neil Carey Arena is set for 1 PM.

SERIES RECORD – The Knights hold a 40-21 advantage over the Flyers in program history. 

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - Lewis and Bellarmine split the season series last year, defending their home courts. On Feb. 14, 2013, the Flyers defeated the Knights 77-65 at Neil Carey Arena. Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the way with 22 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers regrouped to pick up a 95-85 victory over Southern Indiana on Thursday (Jan. 23) at Neil Carey Arena. Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) led the Flyers with 27 points. 

HOME SWEET HOME – Lewis is 8-0 at home this season and has an 19-game home winning streak going at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers carried over 11-straight victories at home after opening the 2012-13 home slate with an 84-77 loss to Central Missouri (Nov. 24, 2012).

BACK IN THE POLL - Lewis moved up two spots in the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday (Jan. 21) at No. 23. 

GOOD FROM LONG RANGE - The 13 (of 23) made three-pointers by the Flyers' against Southern Indiana on Jan. 23rd was the most a Lewis squad has put together since the 2006-07 Flyers made 15 (of 31) against UW-Parkside Feb. 20, 2007. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

FINDING WHO'S OPEN - The Flyers tallied a season-high 26 assists against USI on Jan. 23rd, the most a Lewis squad has collected since the 2005-06 dished out 27 against UW-Parkside on Jan. 14, 2006.

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Johnson, who has started in all 15 games, is averaging 35.2 minutes, the second-most in the GLVC, on the court. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury. She also tops the GLVC and seventh nationally in free throw percentage, hitting 43-of-49 (91.8%) shots from the charity stripe for the Flyers.

AMONG THE COUNTRY - Lewis tops the GLVC in rebounds, averaging 43.5 rebounds-per-game. The Flyers leads the league and rank 13th nationally in assists, dishing out 17.9 assists-per-game. Lewis also has while holding a 1.25 assist-to-turnover ratio. Lewis also is second in blocked shots, swatting 5.2 shots-per-game. 

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 15 double-doubles in 16 contests this season, while ranking second nationally in rebounds, averaging 12.8 rebounds-per-game. Brawner-Henley is second the GLVC in points (18.5 ppg.) and third in blocked shots (2.0 bpg.). 

SHARING THE ROCK – Junior guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is second in the conference in assists, dishing out 5.3 assists-per-game while Johnson is fourth, averaging 4.3 helpers-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME - Junior Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame), Reinhart and Johnson's 20-point performances against Quincy on Jan. 5th marked the first time since the 2005-06 season that the Flyers have had three players score at least 20 points. Darcee Schmidt (23 pts.),  Mary Moskal (24 pts.) and Shante Glenn (20 pts.) all hit the mark in the Flyers' 95-85 victory at Ferris State on Dec. 21, 2005.

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – The Flyers victory over Southern Indiana (Jan. 23) marked the second time this season that two Flyers both captured a double-double as Brawner-Henley did it the old fashioned way with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Nellen scored 11 points and dished out 10 assists. On Dec. 7th, Brawner-Henley (31 pts., 17 rebs.) and Reinhart (30 pts., 13 rebs.) both collected double-doubles against Purdue Calumet.

DISHING DIMES - Nellen's 11 points and 10 assists against USI (Jan. 23) marked the first time since the 1986-87 season that a Flyer has collected a double-double in such a way since Rosemary Turner scored 14 points and had 11 assists in the Flyers 88-65 loss to Wright State on Dec. 16, 1986.
