Indianapolis, Ind. - The Lewis University men's basketball team's bid for three-straight wins over a Top Ten squad fell short, as No. 10 Indianapolis drained 11 three-pointers and forced 17 turnovers on their way to the 80-66 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the No. 17 Flyers at Nicoson Hall on Thursday (Jan. 30) night.
The Greyhounds knocked down 57.9% (11-for-19) of their long-range attempts and turned the Flyer miscues into 29 points. The 17 turnovers are a season-high for the Flyers, who entered Thursday's contest with the fewest miscues in the country. For the game, UIndy shot 53.2% (25-for-47) from the field.
UIndy guards Reece Cheatham (17 points, 7 assists) and Kendall Vieke (16 points) each connected for four three-pointers to lead the Greyhounds. Junior forward Joe Daniels had 13 points, followed by 10 points apiece from senior guards Tyrae Robinson and Jared Grady.
"(Indianapolis) went to a zone defense and we did not handle it very well tonight," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "I thought they took us out of sync, but give Indianapolis credit, because they're a very good team and they're very good at home.
"It's tough to win on the road, but I certainly expected a better effort tonight."
With the win, Indianapolis improves to 16-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play, while the Flyers drop to 15-3 on the campaign and 7-3 in GLVC action.
Lewis junior guard
Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) finished with a team-best 16 points and knocked down three trifectas. Flyer junior forward
Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) had 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting and added a game-high nine rebounds, while
Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) pitched in 11 points in the loss.
