"Anytime you can compete on the boards, especially in the second half like we did, against a team like Quincy, we knew we would have a chance," Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. "Quincy is really good on the glass and getting second-chance opportunities.

"We did a really good job getting rebounds and taking care of the basketball in the second half."

The Flyers were led by junior guard Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) who posted a career-high 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, with a three-pointer, and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Lewis went 5-of-12 from the charity stripe, as five fast-break buckets kept the Flyers close through 20 minutes of action.

Lewis went on a 9-0 run over two minutes to tie the contest at 53-all and force a Quincy time out at 13:59. Johnson picked up five points, including a three-pointer, while Itschner chipped in four points during the run.

The Flyers continued to push the Hawks defensively and on the boards in the second half to increase their lead to 12 points as the horn sounded, winning 92-80.
