St. Louis, Mo. - Maryville used an 12-0 run over the final 2:37 of the second overtime to earn the 83-74 (2 OT) upset win over the No. 17 Lewis University men's basketball team, snapping the Flyers' 10-game winning streak at Moloney Arena on Thursday (Jan. 9) night.
Maryville senior guard Asa Toney had a team-best 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including four assists. Saints senior forward Myles Jerrett chipped in 13 points, along with two three-pointers, four rebounds and two blocks. Saints senior guard Darrin Young Jr. was 4-for-4 from the floor and finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, while junior guard Trae Pemberton had 11 points, with three trifectas, and a team-best six rebounds.
"Give Maryville credit, because they made a few more plays than we did (tonight)," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "I'm proud of our effort and the way we hung in there."
With the win, Maryville improves to 8-3 on the campaign and 2-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers' 10-game winning streak comes to an end, dropping to 10-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) led all scorers with a career-high 26 points and added a team-season high 13 rebounds to pace the Flyers. Junior point guard

Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield), who entered Thursday's contest averaging 19.9 points-per-game, finished with a season-low seven points.
As a team, Lewis shot a season-low 33.8% (23-for-68) from the field and 12.5% (3-for-24) from long range against Maryville. The host Saints converted 50.0% (24-for-48) of their field goal attempts and 52.9% (9-for-17) from three-point land. Three different Maryville players hit at least two three-pointers.
The Saints were dominant at the free throw line in overtime, as they knocked down 16-of-18 of their charity tosses. Lewis owned a 41-36 advantage on the glass, including a 17-4 edge in offensive rebounds. The Flyers earned 19 second-chance points to Maryville'ls six.
The Flyers seemed to be in control of the second overtime, as they took a 74-71 lead following a
Gabe Williams (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) three-pointer with 4:05 left. Williams scored all seven of his points in overtime after Jarosz fouled out with 4:37 left in the first OT.
Williams' trifecta, however, would be the last points the Flyers would score. Toney led the 12-0 run with four points to put the game away for the Saints. Maryville drained five of six free throws over the final 30 seconds of the contest.
Maryville seemed to have the contest wrapped up in the initial overtime, as the Saints' held a 66-61 advantage over the Flyers following a Young Jr. lay-up with 45 seconds left.
The Flyers scored immediately on their next possession, as Lewis tipped in a miss by Jackson to narrow Maryville's lead to 66-63 with 34 seconds left.
Lewis immediately fouled and Saints guard Armon Provo split his charity tosses to extend Maryville's advantage to 67-63 with 30 seconds remaining.

Nick Valla (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) on the inbounds play, sending the Tinley Park, Ill., native to the free throw line with 27 seconds left. Valla would drain both of his free throw attempts to bring the Flyers to within two at 67-65.
Jackson forced a Maryville turnover on the inbounds play and immediately scored with 22 ticks remaining to even the game up at 67-apiece. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native, however, fouled Toney as Maryville was trying to inbound the ball, sending him to the line with 22 seconds left.
Toney hit both of his free throws to push Maryville ahead, 69-67, with 22 seconds left. Williams, however, went right to the basket and converted a lay-up with 17 ticks left to send the game into its second extra session.
Prior to the second overtime, Maryville had built its biggest lead of the game at 49-42 with 8:22 left in the second half. The Flyers would not go away quietly, as they answered with a 14-5 run to take a 56-54 lead with 2:34 left following a pair of free throws by Jarosz. Lewis led the Flyer run with five points over that 5:48 stretch.
Maryville would go on a 4-0 run over the next 2:04 to take a 58-56 lead with 30 ticks remaining as senior forward Jamel Johnson (5 points, 6 rebounds) split a pair of free throws.
Johnson, however, fouled Lewis with five seconds left in regulation. Lewis hit both of his free throws to tie the game up at 58 and send the game into overtime.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 11), as the Flyers take on Missouri-St. Louis for a 3 PM tip-off.
