ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – A goal by junior Lauren Grady (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) with 15 minutes remaining gave Lewis women's soccer a 2-1 victory over Quincy on Friday (Oct. 17) evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Lewis Stadium.

The Flyers held edges in shots (14-11) and corner kicks (7-5). Lewis was first on the scoreboard when sophomore Meg Carmody (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) found the back of the net at 16:54. The goal for Carmody was her second of the season. Senior Susan Thomas (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) and junior Jessica Chavez (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) picked up assists on the goal.

Lewis took a 1-0 lead into halftime before Quincy tied the score on a goal at 56:05. Mackenzie Rief connected on a loose ball in the box following a free kick. Maxine Peat had the assist for Quincy.

It stayed 1-1 until 75:40. Grady picked up the rebound of a shot by Thomas and pounded it in the net. Thomas and Carmody earned assists.

"They really played for each other tonight," Lewis head coach Chris Koenig said of his club's performance. "They really put it together and did a lot of things really well today against a quality Quincy team. This group has been playing well of late but it's great to get a result to show for it."

The win for the Flyers is their first over traditional GLVC-power Quincy since 1999.

Quincy falls to 7-5-2 (6-3-2 GLVC) with the loss. Lewis improves to 3-6-4 (3-5-3 GLVC). The Flyers host Truman State on Sunday (Oct. 19) at 2:30 p.m.
