Michigan Tech HTML Box ScoreAURORA, Ill. – Lewis women's volleyball won a pair of key in-region contests on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover. Lewis defeated Northern Michigan 3-1 (26-24, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18) in the nightcap and topped Michigan Tech 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 in the opener. The Crossover features all 32 teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference.
Lewis 3, Northern Michigan 1The Flyers out-hit the Wildcats .364 to .179. Junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) had a match-high 13 kills while hitting .423. Junior
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) hit .474 with 12 kills. Junior
Lauren O'Brien (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) came off the bench to record nine kills.Senior
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) recorded 42 assists.
After going up 2-0, the Flyers saw Northern Michigan rally to take the third set. The Wildcats were inching toward forcing a fifth set when Northern Michigan took a 10-6 advantage in the fourth set. However four straight points forced a Northern Michigan timeout. It was a 14-12 Wildcats lead when the Flyers went on a clinching 6-0 run to take an 18-14 lead. O'Brien had three kills in the run.
"After losing yesterday, sometimes it is hard to come back the next day and find that attitude and fight you need," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said. "But this team didn't fold it in. They fought and played a little more intelligent and it resulted in two wins today."

Davito was named to the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the event.

Lewis is now 12-9 all-time in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover.

Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) hit .440 with one error and 12 kills. Â Davito recorded a match-high 17 kills while adding two aces. They both benefited from the setting of Barea. She totaled 43 assists for an average of 14.33 per set. Barea earned assists on three straight points in a 5-0 run that helped Lewis rally from a 15-11 deficit in the first set. Davito's two other aces made up the other two points of the 5-0 run.
The second set featured seven ties and three lead changes. The fourth had nine ties and four lead changes. Both sets saw Lewis pull away midway through the frame. Davito had a kill on match point for Lewis.
The Flyers out-hit the Huskies .304 to .208. Michigan Tech had a 45-42 advantage in digs. Lewis'
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had a match-high 19 digs.

Michigan Tech finishes the day 9-11.
Lewis improves to 16-3 with the two wins on the day. The Flyers host Kentucky State on Tuesday in a non-conference match at 5 p.m.
