PDF Box ScoreMIDLAND, Mich. – No. 9 Lewis women's basketball used a 14-2 run over the game's final 3:48 to comeback and defeat the Northwood Timberwolves 83-75 in a non-conference road game on Saturday (Nov. 15) evening.
Senior
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) recorded six points in the final push. It was her free throws that put the Flyers up 75-74 with 2:20 remaining. It was the game's 15
th and final lead change. The big shot came from senior
Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington). The senior's 3-pointer, assisted by senior
Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame), with 1:20 remaining gave Lewis a 78-74 lead.
"Once we fought and clawed to the get the lead late, we kept it," Lewis head coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "This team knows how to close."
Junior
Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) finished with 21 points and a career-high 22 rebounds. She finished one short of the school record for rebounds in a game. Julie Fruendt holds the record with 23 boards against Valparaiso during the 1984-85 season.
Senior
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) added 19 points. Reinhart and Grayer each had 16 points.
Lewis recorded 15 assists on 27 baskets. Four different Flyers recorded three or more assists. The Flyers finished the game shooting 40.9 percent (27-of-66). The Timberwolves shot 27-of-63, finishing 42.9 percent from the floor. Lewis was 21-of-25 from the free throw line. Northwood made 13-of-24 free throw attempts.
Lewis improves to 2-0 while Northwood is now 1-1. The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Nov. 22) as they host Upper Iowa in Lewis' home opener. Tip in Romeoville is set for 3 p.m.
