HTML Box ScoreALLENDALE, Mich. - Seventh seeded Lewis women's volleyball couldn't pull the upset on Thursday (Nov. 20) evening in the NCAA Midwest Regional against second seeded and No. 17 in the nation Ferris State. The Bulldogs won the match 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-14) in a contest played at regional host Grand Valley State. It's the third straight season Ferris State has defeated Lewis in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ferris State opened the match with a six-point win in the first set. Lewis pushed back and won the next set to even the match. In the second set, Lewis took a lead as large as seven at 14-7, only to see the nationally ranked Bulldogs rally all the way back to tie the score at 18. Junior
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) put Lewis back up with a kill for point 19. Then junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) recorded an ace to give Lewis the all important two-point lead. Freshman
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) had kills for points 24 and 25 to give Lewis the set.

Lewis seemed to take the momentum to the third set, grabbing a 7-2 lead and forcing a Ferris State timeout. The break benefited the Bulldogs. Ferris State responded with a 13-3 run. It vaulted the Bulldogs to a win in the third set and ultimately a win in the fourth to clinch the match.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Flyers .276 to .161.

Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had 30 digs, her fifth match this season of 30 or more digs. She finishes with 550 digs on the season, tied for the third most in a single season in Lewis history. Her 2,108 career digs are the most in school history.

Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) totaled 43 assists. She finishes second all-time in assists at Lewis with 4,685. Â
Lewis was led offensively with Schneider's 16 kills, the most for the freshman in a four-set match this season. Senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) totaled 14 kills and 11 digs, while Cebula had 12 kills and just two errors. Vertin finishes her Lewis career with 854 kills.
Ferris State improves to 24-5. Lewis finishes the season 22-8.
