No. 16 Lewis Women's Basketball Hosts Rockhurst On Thursday

Tip off at Neil Carey Arena is set for 5:30 PM

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 16 Lewis University women's basketball team (16-3, 10-1 GLVC) looks to protect their position atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division when they host Rockhurst (6-13, 1-10 GLVC) on Thursday (Feb. 6). Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM at Neil Carey Arena

SERIES RECORD – The Flyers hold a 7-1 all-time series lead over the Hawks. 

HOME SWEET HOME – Lewis is 9-0 at Neil Carey Arena this season and has a 20-game home winning streak. The Flyers carried over 11-straight victories at home after opening the 2012-13 home slate with an 84-77 loss to Central Missouri (Nov. 24, 2012).

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF – Lewis collected a 76-67 victory over Rockhurst on Jan. 12, 2013 at Neil Carey Arena. Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) led the way with 19 points, including hitting 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.  

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers defeated Saint Joseph's 79-73 on Saturday (Feb. 1). Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) made the lay-up with 38 seconds left to give the Flyers a 75-73 lead, Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) then picked up a steal for the defensive stop and the win. Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) led four Flyers in double-figures with 18 points and eight rebounds. Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) scored  a season-high 17 points, including going 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line.

MOVING UP THE POLL - Lewis moved up to No. 16 in the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Feb. 4). 

GOOD FROM LONG RANGE – The Flyers are averaging 7.5 made three-pointers over the last four games (Jan. 23-Feb. 1). Lewis connected on 12 three-pointers at UIndy (Jan. 30), and 13 against USI (Jan. 23rd).

AMONG THE COUNTRY - Lewis tops the GLVC in rebounds, averaging 44.3 rebounds-per-game, and is second in blocked shots, swatting 5.4 shots-per-game. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

FINDING WHO'S OPEN - The Flyers, who lead the GLVC and are 9th nationally in assists averaging 18.4 helpers-per-game, dished out a season-high 26 assists at Indianapolis (Jan. 30). Lewis also collected 26 assists on Jan. 23rd against Southern Indiana at Neil Carey Arena.

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Johnson, who has started in all 19 contests, leads the GLVC averaging 35.9 minutes-per-game. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury. She leads the GLVC and is 8th nationally in free throw percentage, hitting 61-of-67 (91.0%) shots from the charity stripe for the Flyers.

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 17 double-doubles in 19 contests this season, while ranking second nationally in rebounds, averaging 12.6 boards-per-game. The forward is also second in the GLVC in points (18.3 ppg.). 

SHARING THE ROCK – Nellen leads the conference and is 19th nationally in assists, dishing out 5.4 assists-per-game while Johnson is fourth, averaging 4.3 helpers-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME – Itschner (22 pts.), Johnson (29 pts.) and Brawner-Henley (23 pts.) all posted 20 points in the Lewis win over UIndy (Jan. 30) marking the second time this season a trio of Flyers have scored at least 20 points. In the Flyers win over 92-80 Quincy (Jan. 5), Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic), Itschner and Johnson all chipped in 20-point performances. 

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – For the second time this season, Reinhart and Brawner-Henley both collected double-doubles in the same game. In the Flyers victory over the Greyhounds (Jan. 30), Brawner-Henley posted 23 points and 18 rebounds while Reinhart chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. On Dec. 7th, Brawner-Henley (31 pts., 17 rebs.) and Reinhart (30 pts., 13 rebs.) collected double-doubles against Purdue Calumet.

DISHING DIMES - Nellen's 11 points and 10 assists against USI (Jan. 23) marked the first time since the 1986-87 season that a Flyer has collected a double-double in such a way since Rosemary Turner tallied 14 points and 11 assists in the Flyers 88-65 loss to Wright State on Dec. 16, 1986.
