No. 16 Lewis Women's Basketball Takes On William Jewell On Saturday

Tip off is set for 1 PM at Neil Carey Arena.

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 16 Lewis University women's basketball team looks to extend its five-game winning streak over the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division when the Flyers (17-3, 11-1 GLVC) host William Jewell (9-11, 4-8 GLVC) on Saturday (Feb. 8). Tip-off is set for 1 PM at Neil Carey Arena.

SERIES RECORD – The Flyers hold a 1-0 all-time series lead over the Cardinals. 

AGAINST THE GLVC WEST - Lewis is 5-0 this season against GLVC West Division teams, including three wins at home. The Flyers are averaging a 16.6-point scoring margin, dishing out 17.0 assists, and out-rebounding their West Divsion opponents, 44.6-36.4. 

HOME SWEET HOME – Lewis is 10-0 at Neil Carey Arena this season and has a 21-game home winning streak. The Flyers carried over 11-straight victories at home after opening the 2012-13 home slate with an 84-77 loss to Central Missouri (Nov. 24, 2012).

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF – Lewis claimed a 65-56 victory in the squad's first ever match-up on Jan. 10, 2013 at Neil Carey Arena. Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the way with 15 points while Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) chipped in 13 points, including three three-pointers, and eight rebounds for the Flyers.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers defeated Rockhurst 72-37 on Thursday (Feb. 6) at Neil Carey Arena. Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Reinhart tallied 10 points and 10 boards. Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) also chipped in 12 points for the Flyers.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Lewis held Rockhurst to the lowest points scored by an opponent since a 39-37 Flyer victory over the Hawks on Dec. 1, 2007 in Kansas City, Mo. 

SCORING THE BALL - Lewis has scored 90+ points five times this season, which is the most since they did it seven times in the 1988-89 season. 

MOVING UP THE POLL - Lewis moved up four spots to No. 16 in the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Feb. 4). 

GOOD FROM LONG RANGE – The Flyers are averaging 6.4 made three-pointers over the last five games (Jan. 23-Feb. 6). Lewis connected on 12 three-pointers at UIndy (Jan. 30), and 13 against USI (Jan. 23rd). In the Flyers' first 15 contests, Lewis averaged 3.6 made three-pointers-per-game.

TOP OF THE GLVC - Lewis tops the GLVC in rebounds, averaging 44.1 rebounds-per-game, and is ninth nationally in blocked shots, swatting 5.2 shots-per-game. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

FINDING WHO'S OPEN - The Flyers, who lead the GLVC and are 9th nationally in assists averaging 18.4 helpers-per-game, dished out a season-high 26 assists at Indianapolis (Jan. 30). Lewis also collected 26 assists on Jan. 23rd against Southern Indiana at Neil Carey Arena.

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Johnson, who has started in all 20 contests, leads the GLVC averaging 35.5 minutes-per-game. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury. She leads the GLVC and is 8th nationally in free throw percentage, hitting 61-of-67 (91.0%) shots from the charity stripe for the Flyers.

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 18 double-doubles in 20 contests this season, while ranking second nationally in rebounds, averaging 12.5 boards-per-game. The forward is also second in the GLVC in points (18.3 ppg.). 

SHARING THE ROCK – Junior guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) leads the conference and is 13th nationally in assists, dishing out 5.4 assists-per-game while Johnson is fourth, averaging 4.4 helpers-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME – Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) (22 pts.), Johnson (29 pts.) and Brawner-Henley (23 pts.) all posted 20 points in the Lewis win over UIndy (Jan. 30) marking the second time this season a trio of Flyers have scored at least 20 points. In the Flyers win 92-80 over Quincy (Jan. 5), Itschner, Reinhart and Johnson all chipped in 20-point performances. 

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – For the third time this season, Brawner-Henley and Reinhart both collected double-doubles in the same game. Brawner-Henley picked up 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Reinhart collected 10 points and 10 boards in Lewis 72-37 win over Rockhurst (Feb. 6). In the Flyers victory over the Greyhounds (Jan. 30), Brawner-Henley posted 23 points and 18 rebounds while Reinhart chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. On Dec. 7th, Brawner-Henley (31 pts., 17 rebs.) and Reinhart (30 pts., 13 rebs.) collected double-doubles against Purdue Calumet.

DISHING DIMES - Nellen's 11 points and 10 assists against USI (Jan. 23) marked the first time since the 1986-87 season that a Flyer has collected a double-double in such a way since Rosemary Turner tallied 14 points and 11 assists in the Flyers 88-65 loss to Wright State on Dec. 16, 1986.
