St. Louis, Mo. - Racing against Mother Nature, the Lewis University women's tennis team quickly picked up five victories and claimed the 5-1 non-conference match against Northwest Missouri State at the UMSL Tennis Courts on Saturday (March 15) afternoon.
The match was called due to impending inclement weather surrounding the St. Louis area.
With the win, Lewis is now 6-3, while the Bearcats fall to 5-5 on the campaign.
Lewis earned two of its victories in doubles action, as Flyer seniors
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) defeated Alexis Bartek and Lorena Rivas Jarolim, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Kranczicki dropped Jarolim, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Lanstiak blew past Bartek, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
The Flyers' No. 2 doubles tandem of freshman
Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) and sophomore
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) picked up the 8-4 win over Mara Veasey and Marianne Hull, while senior
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) took home the 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mindy Anderson at No. 6 singles.
Lewis returns to action next Saturday (March 22), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 10 AM first serve.
