Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team put a scare into No. 31 Indianapolis, but the visiting Greyhounds prevailed and held on for the 6-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the host Flyers at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Friday (Apr. 11) afternoon.
"It was a hard fought battle," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "We had some chances in doubles that we let slip away and I thought ultimately, that cost us the match.
"Give credit to (UIndy) because they came up with the big shots when they needed to."
With the victory, Indianapolis improves to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in GLVC action, while the host Flyers fall to 5-10 on the campaign and 3-3 in conference play.
Lewis' victories all came in singles action, as junior
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) led off with a 7-6, 6-0 defeat of UIndy's Nico Kastunowicz at No. 1 singles. Flyer freshman
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) won at No. 2 singles by default, while junior
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) defeated UIndy's Fausto Cordova, 7-6, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
