The No. 47 Lewis University women's tennis team made a clean sweep of its Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents, as the Flyers defeated the University of Indianapolis, 6-3, in a match that lasted nearly six hours at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Friday (Apr. 11). This is the third-straight year that Lewis has gone through the GLVC slate undefeated.

"It was a great collegiate tennis match," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We didn't play as well in doubles as we have been lately.

"They fought so hard and the effort was there, but we didn't execute the shots that we usually make," Bridel continued. "In singles, we fought like heck, battled and battled and we came out in the end with a win."

With the win, Lewis improves to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in conference action, while the Greyhounds fall to 9-5 on the campaign and 4-1 in GLVC play.

Lewis picked up a doubles victory at No. 1, as the senior duo of Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) bested Allie Smith and Taylor Eckert, 8-2. Kranczicki added a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Smith at No. 1 singles, while Lanstiak dropped UIndy's Maria Mendes, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

The bottom of the Flyer singles line-up went toe-to-toe with the Greyhounds and came away with three victories. At No. 4 singles, Lewis sophomore Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) handed Selenay Heper, a 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 defeat. Fellow Flyer sophomore Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) dropped UIndy's Macey Speer, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 5 singles, while Lewis senior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) came from behind to beat Brooke Boyts, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Apr. 13), as the Flyers head to Big Rapids, Mich., for a regional contest against Ferris State. First serve is set for 10 AM ET.
