Louisville, Ky. -
The Lewis University men's tennis team won its second-straight match by one point and with just five active players, as the visiting Flyers claimed the 5-4 victory over Bellarmine University to clinch a berth in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Tennis tournament at the Eddie Weber Complex on Saturday (Apr. 5) afternoon.

"I am so proud of our guys," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "Instead of focusing on the unfortunate series of events that reduced our roster, we chose to come together and fight for every point.

"They have shown great character through this experience."

With the win, Lewis improves to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in GLVC action, while the host Knights fall to 6-8 on the campaign and 1-3 in conference action.

At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' tandem of Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) picked up the 8-0 whitewash of Alan Gardiner and Alex Swords. Srdanovic added a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Zachary Kuo at No. 2 singles, while Aunapuu emerged with the 7-5, 6-3 win over Jimmy Fernandez at No. 3 singles.

Lewis' No. 2 duo of junior Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and Philip Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) defeated Jose Legarretta and Kuo, 8-2. Levandi later dropped Legarreta, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 11), as they welcome Indianapolis to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 2 PM first serve.
