Springfield, Mo. -
The No. 46 Lewis University women's tennis team made short work of No. 43 Grand Valley State, as the fourth-seeded Flyers advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship with the 5-0 victory over the Lakers at Drury's Cooper Tennis Complex on Sunday (May 4) afternoon.

"We did what we needed to do in doubles," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "When we execute well in doubles, it has a huge impact on our singles and the outcome of the match."

With the win, Lewis improves to 15-4 on the season and will take on top-seeded Drury in the regional championship for the second-straight season. The match is slated to begin at 3 PM on Monday (May 5).  Last season, the Panthers earned the 5-3 win over Lewis for the title. This is the sixth time in the past four years that Lewis and Drury have battled in a postseason match. Grand Valley State ends the season with a record of 20-8.

Lewis got on the board quickly at No. 2 doubles, as senior Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and freshman Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) paired up for the 8-1 win over GVSU's Leah Dancz and Kali Phillips. Lanstiak added another win over Phillips at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' duo of senior Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and sophomore Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) picked up the 8-5 victory over Carola Orna and Lexi Rice. Kranczicki would go on to defeat Rice, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

The Flyers' final win came at No. 3 doubles, as sophomore Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) and senior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dropped Grand Valley State's Niki Shipman and Morgan Patterson, 8-6.
