Springfield, Mo. -
The No. 46 Lewis University women's tennis team avenged its loss to No. 22 Drury in the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, as the Flyers breezed past the host Panthers for the 5-0 victory and the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Monday (May 5) evening.

"This is a huge win for our program and a great response after the disappointment from the GLVC Tournament loss," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "Again, we played solid doubles and this time we closed out all of our matches. It gave us a lot of momentum heading into singles.

"I thought everyone played super tough and didn't let down," Bridel continued. "It's a great day to be a Flyer!"

With the win, Lewis (16-4) advances to the NCAA Division II Round of 16 for the second time in the past three seasons. The Flyers will take on No. 9 Columbus State at 10:30 AM in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on Wednesday, May 14th. Drury ends the season with a record of 20-5.

Lewis' No. 1 doubles team of senior Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and sophomore Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) earned the 8-6 victory over Stefanie Monsch and Lara Muller. Kranczicki, who is No. 29 in the country in singles play, claimed the 6-3, 6-3 over Drury's No. 45 ranked Hadeil Ali at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis senior Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and freshman Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) claimed the 8-3 win over Samanta Zambrano and Ali. Lanstiak went on to defeat Muller, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Lewis' final victory came at No. 3 doubles, as sophomore Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) and senior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) bested Drury's Katarina Kostovic and Natalia Kozel, 8-1.
