PDF Box ScoreROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's volleyball swept local-foe Saint Francis (Ill.) Tuesday (Sept. 23) evening 25-18, 25-16, 25-11 at Neil Carey Arena in a non-conference match for the Flyers.

Katie Fuerst (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) recorded a career-high seven kills to help Lewis to the victory. Senior Setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) notched 35 assists. Junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) hit .579 with 12 kills, three blocks and two aces.
The Flyers limited Saint Francis to a -.023 hitting percentage. Barea's Lewis offense hit .286. Lewis earned a 48-27 edge in digs with senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) picking up a team-high 11 digs.
The only set with a lead change was the first. The score was tied 10 times and the lead changed on seven occasions. It was a 20-18 score in the first when Lewis closed the frame on a 5-0 run to win the set. Senior
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had an ace for point 25.
"(We) started off a little sluggish and not performing as well as (we) could of," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said. "Sometimes it will take us going to set two to change our mindset but (we) were able to change it in a three-or-four point swing in the middle of the game."
The win moves Lewis to 8-2. Saint Francis is now 11-10 on the year. The Flyers hit the road this weekend for a pair of conference contests. First up is a visit to McKendree on Friday (Sept. 26).
