PDF Box ScoreLEBANON, Ill. – Lewis women's volleyball swept McKendree 25-18, 25-22, 25-16 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road match on Friday (Sept. 26) evening.

McKendree opened the match with a 4-0 run, immediately matched by Lewis to tie the score at four. Another 4-0 Lewis run later in the set put the Flyers up 18-14, a lead they would never relinquish.

McKendree scored their most points of the match in the second set, 22, but never led in the frame. They rallied back with a 9-1 run to tie the score at 20, but Lewis closed the set with three straight points to take the game. Junior
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) and senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) combined on a block for point 25.

The third set was all McKendree as junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) picked up kills for points 24 and 25.

Davito finished with nine kills in the match. Vertin had 11 kills and seven digs for the Flyers. Senior
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) added 11 digs.

"We were not at our cleanest tonight but worked to keep our focus on the things we can control," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said. "I'm happy the entire team showed intelligence and the ability to adjust when a very deep McKendree team continued to make changes."
The Flyers out-hit the Bearcats .245 to .119.

The win improves Lewis to 9-3 (4-1 GLVC). McKendree falls to 5-6 (2-3 GLVC). Lewis travels to UIS on Saturday.
