The opening set was the closest of the three frames and was the only set which saw UIS hold a lead. Lewis held just a one-point advantage at 20-19 when senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) delivered a kill to push Lewis' lead to 21-19. A block by Vertin and freshman
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) and then a kill by Schneider put the set away for the Flyers. In the second set it was a 9-0 run by the Flyers to close the set that ended UIS' hopes. The serving of sophomore
Carolyn Nojiri (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) helped Lewis earn kills on seven of the nine points. Junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) had four of the seven kills in the run. Lewis stayed hot in the third set, scoring the first five points of the frame and never letting the Prairie Stars back in the match.
Davito hit .548 for 19 kills on 31 swings with two errors. Schneider hit .450 with 12 kills. As a team, Lewis out-hit UIS .306 to .096. Senior

The Flyers notched 56 digs as a team, 20 more than UIS' 36 digs.
"We struggled early to find the desire to work for a win," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said. "The bench was huge in turning things around. So much so, that our defense ending up becoming relentless as the match progressed."
The loss drops UIS to 3-7 (1-5 GLVC). Lewis improves to 10-2 (5-1 GLVC). The Flyers continue GLVC play on Tuesday when UW-Parkside comes to Neil Carey Arena. First serve on Tuesday is set for 7 p.m.
