ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's volleyball ran their win-streak to six with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-12) sweep of UW-Parkside on Tuesday (Sept. 30) evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers have won 18-of-19 sets in this stretch.
Â
The match seemed to swing over the final points of the first set. The Rangers played point-for-point with the Flyers in the opening frame, taking a 20-18 lead and forcing Lewis to ask for time. The timeout seemed to work as UW-Parkside scored just one more point in the set. Juniors
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) and
Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) each had two kills during Lewis' 7-1 run to win the game.
"Alexis at the end of set one going on a serving run gave us a little extra confidence that we needed to get everybody to step up offensively and defensively," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said.
The Rangers never threatened over the final two sets. Lewis especially dominated the third set, winning by 13 points and out-hitting UW-Parkside .226 to -.160 in the set.
Â
Senior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) recorded 40 assists, 10 digs and three kills. Parsons finished with 13 kills. Senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) hit .391 with 12 kills. Senior
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) recorded 16 digs.
Â
Jackie Langer led UW-Parkside with seven kills.
Â
UW-Parkside falls to 6-6 (3-4 GLVC). The Flyers improve to 11-2 (6-1 GLVC). Lewis hits the road for a pair of conference matches this weekend. First up is Bellarmine on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
