Springfield, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six matches with a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference whitewash over host UIS at Kiwanis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 26) night.
"I thought we played well in the second half, but I'm still looking for 90 minutes of consistency," Lewis head men's soccer coach
Evan Fiffles said. "It is, however, always good to get a clean sheet on the road."
With the win, Lewis improves to 5-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in GLVC action, while the host Prairie Stars drop to 2-5 on the campaign and 0-5 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half, Lewis junior midfielder
Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) put the Flyers on the board with his first goal of the season at the 66:33 mark. Flyer sophomore midfielder
Ivan Surlina (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) assisted on the play.
Less than five minutes later, senior defender
David Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) provided an insurance goal for the Flyers, as he ripped a blast past UIS goalkeeper Kyle Hamilton in the 72nd minute. Lewis senior forward
George Thomson (Kilmarnock, Scotland/Reid Kerr College) assisted on the score.
As a team, Lewis outshot UIS, 16-6, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Omar Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Elsik) made three saves to earn the shutout victory, while Hamilton made five saves for the Prairie Stars.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 28), as the Flyers head to Evansville for a 2:30 PM showdown with Southern Indiana.
