Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport)'s career-high 23 kills came during the fifth set as she helped Lewis women's volleyball defeat Nova Southeastern 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13) on Saturday (Sept. 6) morning at the Florida Southern Invitational.

Davito earned kills for points 12, 13 and 15 for the Flyers in the fifth set. For the match, she hit .367 while adding 11 digs. Junior
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) hit .409 with 11 kills. Senior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) totaled 56 assists and 14 digs. Senior
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) earned a match-high 22 digs.

After falling in the first set, things looked grim for Lewis in the second when the Flyers fell behind 20-17. A kill by Davito made it 20-18 and then the Flyers went on a run. A solo block by Cebula and then another Davito kill knotted the contest. Nova Southeastern asked for time but it didn't help. A Nova Southeastern error, a Cebula kill, a Choi ace and then another Nova Southeastern attack error followed to make the score 24-20.

Lewis won the third set and then lost the fourth set, forcing a fifth and deciding set and Davito's heroics.

Nova Southeastern is now 0-2. Lewis is 2-1. The Flyers play Flagler at 2 p.m. CT today to close out play at the Florida Southern Invitational.
