ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 18 Lewis women's volleyball fell 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 23-25, 16-14) on Friday (Oct. 30) evening to No. 8 Rockhurst at Neil Carey Arena in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. It was Lewis' sixth straight five-set match.

Offensively, sophomore middle hitter Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) was the story. She hit .615 with 26 kills on 39 swings with two errors.

"Aly and McKenna's (Pierson) connection has been up and down and they worked really hard this past week and it showed tonight," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "Aly is one of those hitters that knows how to manage the ball when the set isn't perfect and setters will go back to hitters like that."

Senior Kelly Brennan (Burr Ridge, Ill./Fenwick) hit .333 with a career-high 10 kills while adding five digs.

The Flyers forced a fifth set with stellar play in sets three and four. Lewis out-hit the Hawks .368 to .243 in the third. In the fourth, Lewis finished the set on a 5-1 run to rally from a 22-20 deficit. Freshman McKenna Pierson (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) had an ace for point 22. Schneider had kills for points 23, 24 and 25.

Lewis had their opportunity in the fifth to win the match as the Flyers jumped out to a 9-4 lead. It was 10-6 in favor of the Flyers when things turned. A service error and four attack errors helped put Rockhurst up 12-10. Lewis fought back, however, as back-to-back Schneider killed tied the score at 13. The Flyers turned away one Rockhurst match point on a Schneider kill, but couldn't deny Rockhurst's second chance to win the match.

"We made 60 unforced errors and they had 22," Smith said. "I think that is the difference between them as a top team in the conference and us just being a good team right now."

Junior Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) had 29 digs for the Flyers.

Rockhurst out-hit Lewis .230 to .202.

The Hawks improve  to 24-2 (12-0 GLVC). Lewis falls to 22-3 (10-2 GLVC). The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 31) against William Jewell at Neil Carey Arena. The match will start at 3 p.m. It is Senior Day for the Flyers.
