Senior
Lauren Grady (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) scored in the 35
th minute for the Flyers. Senior
Maggie Moran (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) brought the ball up the right side and delivered a pass on the ground to Grady who was nine yards in front of the goal. In one motion Grady directed the pass into the net. The tally is Grady's third of the season and 17
th of her career.
It could have been a bigger margin of victory for the home squad as Grady had a shot hit the cross bar in the 43
rd minute and sophomore
Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) hit the post in the 65
th minute.
"I think we played really well tonight," Lewis head coach
Chris Koenig said. "We created a lot of opportunities. I told the group after the game the lesson we have to take out of this is we did a lot of what we wanted to do tonight but we just weren't clinical enough in the final third. A little unlucky to hit a post and a crossbar, as it could've been 3-0, but all in all I'm happy with the way we played."
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) made five saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
Southern Indiana falls to 4-5-2 (3-5-1 GVLC). Lewis improves to 7-3-2 (5-2-2 GLVC).
The Flyers face a major test on Sunday (Oct. 11) when No. 14 Bellarmine comes to Romeoville. The Knights are undefeated at 11-0-1 on the season.
