ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Freshman Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) hit .500 with 17 kills and 14 digs to help No. 23 Lewis women's volleyball defeat UW-Parkside 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24) on Tuesday (Nov. 10) evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Neil Carey Arena.

"Elizabeth has grown in the last 10 days," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "To get 17 kills with only two errors in four games for any outside is amazing but for her to be a freshman and make such a leap over the 10 days is phenomenal."

The back-and-forth affair featured 28 ties and 14 lead changes. 10 of the ties came in the first set as Lewis rallied from a 20-17 deficit to win the frame. Sophomore Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) had seven of her 15 kills in the first set. Lewis won the set on an ace by freshman Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Monomonee Falls) which found the middle of the court.

In the second, UW-Parkside denied a pair of set points before a Schneider kill gave Lewis a 2-0 advantage.

Following intermission, Lewis seemed to be in position to finish the match in three after scoring the first four points. However UW-Parkside clawed back to take their first lead at 9-8. Lewis led 23-22 before the Rangers scored the final three points of the set to force it to a fourth game.

The middle of the fourth set ended up being the difference in the match. The Rangers scored five straight to grab a 16-12 lead. But back came the home standing Flyers, scoring five straight and eight of the next 10 points to take a 20-18 lead.

Sophomore Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) was the third Flyer with double-digits kills. She had 12 kills with 14 digs. Reigning GLVC Defensive Player of the Week Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) led Lewis with 24 digs.

Lewis out-hit UW-Parkside .205 to .163.

Tuesday's match was Lewis' final home contest of the season. The Flyers finish the 2015 slate with a 13-1 record at home. It is Lewis' first season with 13 wins at home since 2012 when they went went 13-0 in Romeoville.

UW-Parkside falls to 19-9 (10-6 GLVC) with the loss. Lewis improves to 25-4 (13-3 GLVC).

Lewis closes the regular season this weekend. First up is a trip to Indianapolis on Friday (Nov. 13) in a 7 p.m. ET first serve. The Flyers then play at Saint Joseph's on Saturday (Nov. 14) in a 3 p.m. start.
