Cedarville, Ohio -
It's never easy to win back-to-back games in consecutive days, but the Lewis University men's basketball team found a way to get it done, as the Flyers earned the 89-86 regional victory over Davis & Elkins in second day action of the Don Callan Classic, hosted by Cedarville, at the Callan Athletic Center on Saturday (Nov. 14) evening.

Keying the Flyers to victory was the performance of its three freshmen in center Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison), swingman Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) and guard Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic). That trio combined for 35 points on 14-for-21 shooting, including five three-pointers. Vukaj had 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting with five rebounds, while Blaylock scored all 10 of his points in the second half. Reinhart drained three trifectas to finish with nine points.

Lewis sophomore swingman Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) collected a game-high 19 points to go along with a game-high seven assists and seven rebounds, while senior forward Brad Foster (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) had 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

Flyer junior guard Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) knocked down a career-high tying four three-pointers for the second straight game to finish with 14 points. Lewis finished the evening shooting 47.8% (11-for-23) from three-point range. Overall, the Flyers shot 58.3% (35-for-60) from the field.

Vukaj, Henshaw and Reinhart helped the Flyer bench outscore Davis & Elkins, 42-2.

"It feels great to get two in-region road wins," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We found a way to win today without playing our best.

"We had some significant contribution from our bench and I thought Frank, Capel, and Jake played very well - along with Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights)," Trost continued.  "We know that we need to play better but it was great for us to be in a close game and find a way to win.

"I'm really proud of our team today."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 2-0, while the Senators drop to 0-2 on the campaign.

All five of Davis & Elkins' starters posted double-figures, led by a game-high 28 points and eight rebounds from junior guard Kevin Bracy-Davis. D&E junior guard Wesley Sprinkle drained six three-pointers to finish with 20 points to go along with a team-best seven assists, while freshman guard Kevin Simpson connected on four three-pointers to finish with 14 points.

The Senators depended on the deep ball against the Flyers as they attempted 39 trifectas, while hitting 15 for a 38.5% clip.

D&E senior forward Aleksander Vasiljevic finished with 12 points, while freshman guard Jordan McElveen contributed 10 points, six steals and five assists in the loss.

Lewis returns to action on Wednesday (Nov. 18), as the Flyers welcome Ferris State to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 PM tip-off in their home opener.
