FAYETTE, Iowa – Senior Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored 31 points on 12-of-17 shooting to help No. 2 Lewis women's basketball to a 90-57 non-conference victory at Upper Iowa on Tuesday (Nov. 17) evening at Dorman Gymnasium.

Johnson finished 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. She added four assists, three rebounds and two steals with only one turnover in 23 minutes of work.

Johnson and Lewis' other four starters played only a few minutes in the second half as Lewis built a 52-31 lead at the break. A 9-0 run in the first quarter helped give Lewis early command of the game. A 22-8 scoring margin in the third quarter put the game away.

"Jamie got us going early but we had contributions from all 12 players," Lewis head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "It was a great team win."

The Flyers shot 58.7 percent (37-of-63) from the floor while limiting Upper Iowa to 27.0 percent (16-of-58) shooting.

"I was happy we played defense like we were down," Gillespie said. "We are constantly talking about playing our best on every possession."

Freshman Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) added 12 points. Freshman Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) recorded 11 points and four assists.

"Kayla played really well tonight on both ends," Gillespie said.

The Flyers held a 50-4 edge in points in the paint and a 22-0 advantage in fast break points.

The Flyers improve to 3-0. Upper Iowa falls to 0-3. The Romeoville faithful will get their first look at the 2015-16 Lewis squad on Saturday (Nov. 21) when Lewis plays Davis & Elkins at 3 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
