LAST TIME OUT - Ferris State junior guard Quentin Ruff hit a 30-foot buzzer beater to send the game into overtime and the Bulldogs outscored Lewis, 18-7, in the extra session to earn the 83-72 (OT) win on Wednesday (Nov. 18) night.
LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis senior guards
Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield),
Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) and
Gabe Williams (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) nearly outscored Saginaw Valley State on their own, as the trio combined for 61 points on 19-for-25 shooting - and 7-for-10 shooting from three-point range - in the 83-62 regional victory over the host Cardinals at O'Neill Arena on November 20, 2014.
ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold an 1-0 advantage over the Cardinals in their all-time series.
RANKED SCHMANKED - Lewis has defeated at least one nationally-ranked Division II team in each of the last five seasons - including last season's 70-61 win over then No. 1 ranked Indianapolis.
TOUGH CROWD - Entering the season, Lewis has averaged over 20 wins in the last three years with 62 total victories. That would put them sixth overall among GLVC teams in total wins behind league leader and 2013 National Champion, Drury (80).
EFFICIENCY IS KEY - Lewis senior center
Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) is currently third in school-history with a 61.5% (300-for-488) field goal percentage. He recorded a career-high 25 points in the win over Cedarville.
WHO DO YOU GUARD? - In just three contests, Lewis has had seven different players score at least 10 points.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - Lewis sophomore swingman
Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) was named the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman Of The Year after averaging 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds-per-game for the Flyers in 2014-15.
TOTALLY TO THE MAX - Strus was the highest scoring Flyer freshman since Lewis' All-Time Leading Scorer Larry Tucker registered 14.9 points-per-game in 1979-80.
HE'S A LEGACY - Strus is the brother of former Flyer standout Marty Strus (2008-12). Marty is Lewis' all-time leader in blocked shots (181).
ALL-AROUND GOOD GUY - Strus led the Flyers in points (19), rebounds (7) and assists (7) in the win against Davis & Elkins. That's the third time in his career that he has accomplished that feat.
FROM LONG RANGE - Junior guard
Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) is currently third in school-history in career three-point FG%, as he has converted 44.8% (69-for-154) of his attempts.
TOURNAMENT TESTED - Lewis is the only team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference that has advanced to the GLVC Quarterfinals in each of the past nine seasons.
POSTSEASON ACCOLADES - Lewis has had at least one All-GLVC performer in each of Trost's nine seasons as a head coach.
DUNK YOU VERY MUCH - Lewis recorded nine slam dunks in the win against Cedarville on November 13th. That is the most flushes in the Trost era since they had five against both Drury (2/12/15) and St. Francis (12/11/10).
BENCH MOB - Led by 13.3 points-per-game from freshman
Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison), the Lewis bench is outscoring its opponents 33.3 to 19.0 in just three contests. The Flyers outscored Davis & Elkins' bench, 42-2 last week.
LET'S BE FRANK - Vukaj is shooting a blistering 77.3% (17-for-23) in three games for the Flyers, which is currently fifth overall in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (as of Thursday).
BEYOND THE ARC - Opposing teams are averaging 33.3 three-point attempts in three games against the Flyers this season.
DOUBLE DOUBLES - Lewis has recorded two double-doubles in three games this season. The Flyers totaled five double-doubles for the entire 2014-15 campaign.
500 CLUB - Strus needs 26 more points to reach 500 for his career.
