PDF BoxCHICAGO - Lewis women's basketball dropped their final exhibition contest of the season on Saturday (Nov. 7) at DePaul 87-67. The Blue Demons entered the contest ranked No. 22 in NCAA Division I. The Flyers are ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II. The Flyers were within nine points at 64-55 with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter before the nationally ranked Blue Demons put the game away in the fourth. Lewis outscored the Blue Demons 20-16 in the third quarter.

Kristen Gillespie said. "We fought for 40 minutes against one of the best teams in America. As always, DePaul was extremely well coached. We played fearless and competed every play."
Senior Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) led Lewis with 21 points while adding eight assists. Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) added 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting. Lewis out-shot DePaul 51 percent (29-of-57) to 47 percent (31-of-66). The Flyers made 7-of-16 from beyond the arc.
"There are a ton of positives to take away," Gillespie said. "A game like this exposes a lot of areas we need to continue to work on."
Lewis opens the 2015-16 campaign on Nov. 14 in a neutral site contest against Saginaw Valley State. Tip on the campus of Saint Joseph's College is set for 6 p.m.
