Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team shot 75% (18-for-24) from the field and turned the ball over once in the second half as the host Flyers won their fifth-straight contest with the 76-52 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Drury at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Feb. 12) night.
The Flyers were equally as impressive on the defensive end, as they held Drury to 31.6% (18-for-57) from the floor. Drury scored the first basket of the game and that was the last lead that the Panthers would own. The Flyers controlled the first half and put the game completely out of reach in the final stanza, as they utilized a 42-18 run to secure the victory.
For the game, Lewis shot 58.5% (31-for-53) from the floor and went 2-for-11 from three-point range. If you take away Lewis' three-point attempts, the Flyers shot 69.0% (29-for-42) from inside the arc. The Flyers tied a team-season low with six turnovers on the evening.
"I don't think we've played a better half this year than we did in the second half tonight," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "Drury is good and they're awful difficult to defend.
"I thought we did an unbelievable job on Bundy and Adams defensively and we made it really difficult on them," Trost continued. "Overall, I thought it was a really, really good performance.
"We're playing better, we're playing well and it's a good time to be playing well."
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 14), as the Flyers welcome Missouri S&T to Neil Carey Arena for 'Senior Day'. Tip-off is set for 3 PM.
