Plainfield, Ill. -
The Lewis University women's tennis team was dominant in the top of its lineup, as the host Flyers earned the 5-4 regional victory over Walsh University at the Five Star Tennis Center on Monday (Feb. 16) night.

"It was a good regional win," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "Walsh has some good players at the top of their lineup and we needed to play well to beat them."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 1-1, while Walsh falls to 8-9 on the season.

At No. 1 doubles, Lewis freshman Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) and sophomore Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) paired together for the 8-4 win over Walsh's Sofya Logunova and Alona Skobkina. Mindiyarova added a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Logunova at No. 1 singles, while Banic downed Skobkina, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.

At No. 2 doubles, Flyer juniors Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) earned the 8-6 victory over Daria Bondareva and Alisha Angle. Nguyen would later beat Bondareva, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
