Rosemont, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team split for the second day at the Flyer Dome Invitational, as the Flyers (2-2) dropped a 7-5 decision to Saginaw Valley State, but rebounded with the 3-1 victory over No. 15 Wayne State at The Dome at the Ballpark on Saturday.

WP - Sarah Appold; LP - Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) (0-2)Â Â Saginaw Valley State scored six runs in the first two innings and held on for the 7-5 regional victory over the Flyers.
  The Flyers staged a rally, cutting the lead to 6-5 in the sixth inning, but could come no closer. Lewis was unable to take advantage of seven Cardinal errors and left seven runners on base, six of which were stranded in scoring position. Of Lewis' five runs scored, only one was earned.

Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) topped the Flyers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while senior outfielder
Justina Doll (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) picked up two base hits and scored a run.
  Lewis sophomore pitcher
Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) took the loss for the Flyers. Schweickert (0-2) allowed six runs - five earned - and five hits in one inning of work.
  "We try to focus on winning every inning and, if we're lucky, we won three out of seven today," Lewis head softball coach
Becky Pearl said. "We need to play a full seven innings, battle as a team and try to leave everything on the field."

Kelsey Ullrich (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) got the ball rolling for the Flyers in the first inning, as she unleashed a two-out, two-run home run to put the Flyers ahead, 2-0.
  Joining Ullrich in the offensive attack were both DeMasi and sophomore shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont). DeMasi went 2-for-3, while Jaworski was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) went the distance to earn the complete-game victory. Bowler (2-0) allowed one run, scattered seven hits and struck out three batters to pick up the win.
  "We're feeling great about (our performance today)," Pearl said. "I loved the attitude of our team at the plate. We went up there, took cuts and wanted to hit the ball.
  "That's the kind of aggression that we've been talking about."
  Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 22), as the Flyers meet Upper Iowa for a 1 PM showdown.
