JOLIET, Ill. – Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough earned his 200th career win thanks to the Flyers' 10-2 non-conference victory at St. Francis on Tuesday (April 21) evening at Silver Cross Field.

The Flyers wasted little time getting on the board thanks to a four-run first inning. Junior Austin Mastela (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport), senior Jared Pyatt (Pekin, Ill./Pekin), senior Mark Kornacker (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and junior Chris Pikoulas (Frankfort, Ill./Carl Sandburg) each had an RBI in the frame.

St. Francis came back for a run in the bottom half of the inning before Lewis added two more in the fourth on RBI by freshman Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and Pyatt.

Pyatt totaled three hits. Bloom, the reigning conference player of the week, had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. He also knocked in two runs. Mastela scored twice, knocked in a pair and had two hits including a triple. Freshman Sam Cybulski (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Lyons Township) also added two hits.

Freshman Eric Luecht (Lake In The Hills, Ill./Huntley) allowed two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings to get the win. He is now 2-4. The Lewis bullpen threw the final four innings, allowing only two hits and no runs. St. Francis' Matt DeGraw threw just the first inning. He picked up the loss to drop his mark to 1-2.

The Flyers out-hit the Fighting Saints 13-6 and benefited from four St. Francis errors.

The win moves Lewis back to .500 at 19-19. St. Francis falls to 21-22.

"The bullpen was solid and we were clean defensively," McDonough said. "I thought we got a lot of production up and down the lineup. It feels good to be back to .500 and we have been playing our best baseball as we enter the stretch run."

The Flyers return to the field on Saturday in a conference doubleheader at Saint Joseph's. First pitch with the Pumas is set for noon.
