ST. LOUIS - Lewis women's volleyball stayed perfect in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon with a 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-15, 25-21) win at Missouri-St. Louis.

Lewis was led offensively by freshman Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central)'s double-double of 15 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) added 12 kills. For the second straight match, Lewis used a decisive blocks advantage to score key points. Lewis finished with an 11 to 3.5 edge in blocks over the Tritons. Schneider led Lewis with six blocks. Junior libero Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) commanded the backcourt, recording 28 digs.

The closest set was the second. It was tied at 18 until UMSL scored the final seven points to tie the match at one. Lewis pulled away midway through the third set to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Lewis never trailed after grabbing a 16-13 lead.

"UMSL was well prepared to defend us," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "We had to make some adjustments that might not have been easy on a few players but they were resiliant. A big player for us in that regard was Maddie (Seliga)."

Lewis has won 11 straight matches.

UMSL falls to 5-7 (2-2 GLVC). Lewis improves to 12-1 (4-0 GLVC). The Flyers return home on Friday (Oct. 2) to face Saint Joseph's in GLVC match. Note the early start time of 5 p.m. Following Lewis' match, Saint Joseph's will play Kentucky State.
