ST. LOUIS - No. 8 Lewis women's basketball won their 11th consecutive game with a 59-45 victory at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday (Jan. 16) afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

Lewis opened the game on a 10-1 run. The Tritons used most of the first half to whittle the deficit to one point at 26-25 at half. UMSL took their first lead of the game at 33-31 with 5:34 left in the third quarter. Despite the Tritons grabbing the lead, the Flyers spent the majority of the game in the lead. Lewis put the game away with a 9-2 run to open the fourth quarter. Junior Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) had a dagger with four minutes left when she drained a wide open 3-pointer to put the Flyers up 51-43.

Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) recorded 22 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) added 19 points and seven rebounds. Both finished 9-of-17 from the floor. Siwek scored eight points, all in the second half, as she made Lewis' only two 3-pointers of the game. Sophomore Tiana Karopulos (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) had six points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Senior Alex Poole (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) had a pair of key baskets for four points.

"I give all the credit to UMSL," Lewis head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "They battled and played with more energy for 40 minutes. Alex and Sophie (Lichte) gave us big plays and it was great to see Alyssa (Siwek) come back and play well after a tough performance on Thursday."

Lewis shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) while limiting UMSL to 30.8 percent (16-of-52). UMSL was 5-of-21 from beyond the arc. Lewis out-rebounded UMSL 47-29. That advantage help Lewis lead in points in the paint (40-18) and second chance points (15-1).

UMSL falls to 7-8 (2-5 GLVC). Lewis improves to 16-1 (7-0 GLVC). Thanks to Bellarmine's loss on Saturday, Lewis is the only team with a perfect record in the GLVC.

Lewis is back in action on Thursday (Jan. 21) when Southern Indiana comes to Neil Carey Arena for a 5:30 p.m. start.
