SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - No. 9 Lewis women's basketball held an eighth consecutive opponent to a sub 40.0 shooting percentage in a 63-41 victory at Illinois Springfield on Thursday (Jan. 28) evening.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference win improves Lewis to 10-0 on the season in league play. Lewis led for all but 3:06 on Thursday night.

Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) recorded 26 points and 14 rebounds for her 64th career double-double. She is now tied with Carlita Jones of Clarion who recorded 64 from 1992-95.

Brawner-Henley scored 18 of her points in the second half. She finished 12-of-18 from the floor in the game.

The Prairie Stars used a 9-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to grab a 19-18 lead. Lewis responded with an 11-0 stretch to go up 33-21 with 7:03 left in the third quarter. Four different Flyers recorded a point in the push. Lewis never looked back.

Freshman Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, added 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Tiana Karopulos (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) pitched in six points, four assists and three steals with no turnovers off the bench.

Lewis shot 52.0 percent (26-of-50) from the floor. UIS made 16-of-52 attempts (30.8 percent).

"It was another All-American performance by Mariyah," Lewis head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "I thought we did a nice job on the defensive end. We need to continue to work on having a more balanced attack. At times we are too unselfish. If we can work on that, we will keep getting better."

The Flyers move to 19-1 (10-0 GLVC). UIS falls to 6-11 (1-9 GLVC). The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 30) in a 1 p.m. start at McKendree.
