Romeoville, Ill. - A late surge by the Lewis University women's soccer team fell short as the host Flyers dropped a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference decision to Quincy University at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Oct. 14) night.
With the victory, Quincy improves to 6-5-2 overall and 6-4-1 in GLVC action, while the host Flyers drop to 6-7-1 on the campaign and 4-6-1 in conference play.
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Allison Diekmann (44') and Natalie Quisenberry (48'), before the Flyers cut the lead in half with a
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) score at the 49:10 mark.
Lewis had the chance to tie the game in the 69th minute, but Quincy goalkeeper Megan Swanson stoned a penalty shot by Lewis junior midfielder
Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) to help preserve the victory for the Hawks.
Quincy held a 13-11 advantage in shots, while both teams notched six shots on frame.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 16) as they welcome No. 10 Truman State to Lewis Stadium for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
