Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team, behind the strength of two second half goals, claimed the 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference upset victory over previously unbeaten and No. 10 ranked Truman State at Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon.
The Flyers received scores from both sophomore defender
Karly Soy (Eldridge, Iowa/North Scott Senior) and freshman midfielder
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminster Christian).
Soy headed in a
Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) corner kick at the 46:28 mark to break a scoreless tie. Richardson extended Lewis' lead to 2-0 as she converted a throw-in from sophomore defender
Kianna Clark (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake South) in the 64th minute.
With the win, Lewis improves to 7-7-1 overall and 5-6-1 in GLVC action, while the visiting Bulldogs fall to 11-1-2 on the season and 10-1-1 in conference play.
Lewis redshirt junior goalkeeper
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) made seven stops in goal for her third shutout of the season.
Truman State outshot Lewis 11-6 and enjoyed a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 21), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to Lewis Stadium for a 7:30 PM kickoff.
