Aurora, Ill. - The 10-match winning streak came to an end for the No. 12 Lewis University women's volleyball team as fellow top-seed Wayne State (GLIAC) earned the 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 28-26, 15-13 regional victory over the Flyers in the opening day of the 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament at the Great Lakes Center on Friday (Oct. 14) afternoon.
With the win, Wayne State improves to 16-2 on the season, while the Flyers drop to 15-4 on the campaign.
The Flyers received double-doubles from sophomore outside hitter
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and redshirt sophomore setter
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls). Hyland had a match-high 15 kills and 14 digs, while Becker had 43 assists and 12 digs.
Lewis redshirt junior
Bailey Sparkman (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) nearly missed a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs, while junior middle hitter
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) collected 13 kills and hit .290 (13-4-31) on the afternoon.
Flyer redshirt senior libero
Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) had 13 digs, while senior defensive specialist
Carolyn Nojiri (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) picked up 12 digs in the loss.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 15), as the Flyers take on both Ferris State (10 AM) and Trevecca Nazarene (4 PM) in the final day of the tournament.
